Jarrod (webmaster of ImNotBad.com) was kind enough to let me share with you those amazing scans from the book of “Disney on Ice”, an ice-skating show that toured America around 1990 in which Roger Rabbit and the characters from “Duck Tales”, “Rescue Rangers” and other Disney cartoons were featured.

You’ll find that some of the official art from the movie was recycled, but there are also some neat drawings and pictures that give you a slight glimpse of the costumed characters and sets from the wandering show.

Vinylmation Roger Rabbit figure gonna knock your socks off!

Disney revealed in their Vinylmation Official Facebook page a glimpse of an upcoming Roger Rabbit figure. Yes, you’re reading right fellas: Roger Rabbit is back –at least, in the form of a cute Vinylmation figure!!

Here it is, in all his mouse-shaped glory:

Obviously his ears look quite small (ain’t gonna fit those huge ears in that mousey ears), his facial expression is somewhat awkward and somehow he ended with 4 toes in each foot when he only had three… But hey! He looks adorable and I want one RITE NAO.

What do you think of this one? Maybe this could be the beginning of better things to come! We Roger Rabbit fans deserve some attention too! ;)

New old news

Old news, but it's first time I have heard of this so I figure I might as well post it to fill in those who haven't heard of it.
Earlier last year, in October actress Paula Patton reported on her site that she was going to play a character named "Witch Boom" in Roger Rabbit 2. Possibly a relative of or character similar to Judge Doom judging from the name.
This was before it was reported the sequel was getting stalled so I'm not sure if it's still happening.

It’s official: Roger Rabbit 2 is being “dipped” again

There aren’t any surprises here, after tons of promises about getting a sequel from our favorite movie and being dissapointed again and again.

As ImNotBad.com reports, “Roger Rabbit 2” got stalled since the script from the proposed sequel is taking too long to be settled, and producers Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg aren’t willing to get into Robert Zemeckis’ project by the moment. Put into Kathleen Kennedy’s words:

“We’ve attempted a script, but it’s not really moving forward right now,” said Kennedy. “That’s not to say it won’t in the future, but there’s no spotlight on it now.”

Yup: no Roger Rabbit 2. We saw this coming.

A very special Roger Rabbit day

In an earlier post I wrote about the lack of updates on Toontown Antics, mainly because there aren’t a lot of news and info about Roger Rabbit out there. I apologized because I want to keep this blog up and running, but without info, images or valuable bits of trivia is almost impossible.

Then, thanks to Roger himself I suddenly remembered why I created this blog a couple of years ago.

Out of nowhere, I found a very clean, mint talking Roger Rabbit doll: so mint it looks like new! (and still talks great)

I was so thrilled about this find, that I remembered how I felt the same way when I got my first Roger Rabbit doll, almost 5 years ago. It was the same emotion, the same happiness, the same “oh-my-gosh-i-can’t-believe-i-got-it” feeling I got in that time… When I actually needed a reason to smile.

Then, I got another find: a new copy of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” since mine is a little worn-out (you know: I watched that movie dozens of times, and I can’t get tired of it).

Finally, at home, my friend Alex surprised me with a “new” Roger Rabbit illustration which I shared with all of you fellas.

And after all those neat finds, I remembered why I created Toontown Antics: because I wanted to share those neat emotions with all Roger Rabbit fans. Because I needed to share all my knowledge and points of view about Roger and his friends (and foes). Because I had hopes this blog would become a common place for fans of the movie and its characters, or fans of traditional animation as well. And of course: because I love Roger Rabbit <3

Today was my very special Roger Rabbit day. And thanks to that, Toontown Antics gets another chance =3

More Roger Rabbit unknown art coming out!

Well, in first place let me apologize for the lack of updates on this blog. I never abandoned Toontown Antics, but I’ve had a hard time gathering new info, images or tidbits of trivia related to our favorite and beloved wacky rabbit. Sooooo…

Let’s say I’ve had a very special day today (guess I’ll gonna talk about it in another blog entry) and my old friend and co-admin Alex topped it with a nice surprise that I want to share with all my fellas:

While wandering around the intertubes, Alex found the personal blog of Pete Emslie, who’s a cartoonist and illustrator that worked for Walt Disney World’s marketing department between 1990 and 1994. As many of you remember, Walt Disney World celebrated its 20th. Anniversary back in 1991 and it was a HUGE celebration which involved Roger Rabbit in a very prominent role, since he was the big star of Disney at the time (even bigger than Mickey Mouse, you know). So he was displayed everywhere and even got a huge inflatable figure roaming around the place (recycled from Disneyland’s 35th. Anniversary). It was natural for Pete to use him for a series of promotional prints regarding the theme park’s anniversary, so he pulled out a very neat illustration which you can see here:

Nostalgia Critic made my rabbits famous!

Hare In My Soup

Thanks to our fellow friend Jarrod (webmaster of I’mNotBad.com) we’ve got those amazing pictures from the cells of the ill-fated, never released short “Hare In My Soup” and let me say they look quite great!

The character designs and backgrounds look really superb and quite similar to the preceding shorts which were released before (Tummy Trouble, Rollercoaster Rabbit and Trail Mix-Up). It’s a shame the constant feud between Steven Spielberg (from Amblin) and Michael Eisner (then CEO of Disney) ruined this short, since it seemed very promising (Spielberg demanded several changes to the story until he decided to shut this project down, as a revenge for not having any Roger Rabbit short to open his own movies like Arachnophobia).

One just can wonder about what could have happened if only Spielberg approved this short feature… What a bummer.

Robert Zemeckis is back with “Animated American”… Could this be actually RR2?

Finally, after several weeks of hiatus found some interesting info that might be of your interest!

Slashfilm - Rob Edwards Writing Robert Zemeckis Project ‘Animated American’

Seems that Robert Zemeckis wasn’t already done with Disney, since he’s now in charge of a project named “Animated American”, which is apparently a mix of live-action and animation like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.

The script, which is written by “The Princess and the Frog” screenwriter Rob Edwards features an animated baby being raised by a human family until he turns 18 and decides to say farewell to his foster family, in his search for his real animated family. Doesn’t that sounds awfully familiar? Since the discarded sequel “Roger Rabbit II: Toon Squad” features the very same original premise but spiced with jews, some nazi fellas and some WWII scenery (thanks goodness it never came to fruition, since I’d hate knowing about Roger’s actual father… Yes, THAT despicable rabbit).

If you’re following me, then you’ve got enough reasons to think “Animated American” is just a working title for “Roger Rabbit 2”… And let’s hope Disney and Zemeckis are actually working on this! =3

Zemeckis’ Yellow Submarine has sunk; Roger Rabbit 2 could be next?

Since “Mars Needs Moms” opening weekend was a total disaster for Disney, seems they’ve had enough of Robert Zemeckis and his creepy Mo-Cap movies and they’re kicking out the “Yellow Submarine” project:

So, at least we got rid of this project for a while… But this will mean Zemeckis won’t have enough funding for keeping “Roger Rabbit 2” alive? Let’s analyze the facts: Disney has been rather skeptical with Zemeckis projects since “A Christmas’ Carol” failed to meet box office expectations, shutting down their joint venture with the now troubled director (ImageMovers Digital). Besides, it’s said Zemeckis is looking for a live-action movie to direct after “Mars Needs Moms” failure. Add the lack of news about “RR2” to the mixture, and we have the perfect recipe for yet another failed attempt of pulling out a sequel from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.

Let’s wait for more news about this particular issue. Anyway, I feel like walking the same old path again… :(

Roger Rabbit meets Dylan Dog

For those who didn't knew, Dylan Dog is a Italian comic series about a private investigator who frequently deals with cases involving creatures like ghosts, werewolves, zombies ...and pink rabbits. You see, two stories in this series seem to be inspired by WFRR. They dealt with a toon called ”Pink Rabbit” who had managed to cross over into the real world and much like Judge Doom used cartoony methods to kill of people. Falling anvils, steamrollers and dynamite may seem funny in cartoons, but when you use those things on humans the outcome is of course far more horrific.

The Roger Rabbit influence is even more apparent in the second story, check out the Toontown-looking background on the cover for instance.

We are also introduced to a Jessica-inspired character.
And there is a part somewhat similar to the deleted ”Pighead scene” where the toons try to screw with the detective by pasting a toon mask over his head.

There may be even more that I missed, I don’t speak Italian so I didn’t understand all the dialogue in these stories. But I managed to figure out the main plot through some rough translations. If any visitors from Italy wanna tell me about any other references in these comics that I missed then lemme know.

The Head Turner II

Jessica’s owner and webmaster Jarrod sent me this interesting picture, in which the incomplete Roger Rabbit statue I featured on this blog two weeks ago looks stunning and well detailed, despite being… You know… Incomplete XD

In a related note, Lindsay Cave (the current owner of this statue) suddenly marked all the pictures on his Flickr account as private, including his own snap of this decapitated figure and the background story about it. It’s quite sad, but I respect his decision and if he asks me to delete the picture he allowed me to use, then I’ll do it ASAP.

Toontown Antics – Second Anniversary

We’ve had a really hard year: very few rumors about the “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” upcoming sequel and another related projects by Robert Zemeckis, Disney and some other movie studios. Lack of fresh news that keep us excited until we can get something more substantious. And, in top of all, several persons who think Roger Rabbit is a forgotten character who should remain that way, since no one will be interested in a zany, wacky cartoon rabbit in a world dominated by 3D and CGI behemoths.

Despite all those issues, Toontown Antics is still here.

A couple of years is enough time for proving I’m doing the right stuff. Sure, I’ve had some slumps in my personal life and sometimes I feel like: “what the heck am I doing, since almost nobody is interested in Roger Rabbit and they rather go after Jessica?”. Anyway I’ve been stubborn enough to let this little, humble blog die and all my efforts to keeping it updated and running worth it. Totally worth it

Of course, I’ve had a lot of support from Alex: my co-blogger. He’s always there, searching for more Roger Rabbit related articles, drawings and stuff, and giving me his advice and kind words. Without him, Toontown Antics would be probably a dead project, and I really thank him for his time, patience and wisdom.

But, if you weren’t reading this, we wouldn’t have any reasons to celebrate. That’s why I want to thank all our visitors: frequents, casuals and anonymous. Friend or foes. Lovers or haters. Fans of Roger, Jessica, Eddie, Baby Herman, Judge Doom and the Weasels. Thanks to all of you, for your support and nice comments (and also thanks for all the times we’ve had arguments, why not?)

The Head Turner

We’ve shown you pictures from Roger Rabbit statues which were (or still are) in display in a couple of Disney Stores around the world, but this is the first time we can actually see an unfinished statue, and look how these were made before paint and finishing touches.

Lindsay Cave (who’s Creative Director for Disney enthusiast magazine Tales from the Laughing Place) allowed me to publish a nice shot in which a never-completed Roger Rabbit life-size statue appears in all its glory:

Tiny Toons references Roger again

As you know from our previous entries, Tiny Toon Adventures have referenced Roger Rabbit a few times. And in "New character day" they do it again.

A very, very off-model Roger cameos in the beginning where he's auditioning for a role in the show. Unfortunately for him, Buster and Babs are not impressed with his performance. I have known about this cameo for quite some time, but haven't been able to find it online until now. Unfortunately there seem to be something wrong with the sound in the video, or maybe it is just my computer being screwy. The right side of the video also seems to be cut off by the sidebar, but playing it in fullscreen should solve that problem.

I was randomly surfing on Flickr, when I stumbled upon this great rendition of Roger and Jessica’s wedding, done in cold porcelain:

The quality on the details is amazing, but surprisingly Baby Herman is wearing a girl dress, which looks quite odd on him (maybe the creator of this piece actually thought he was a baby girl, thanks to his huge eyelashes and the pink bow at his head).

Who Bopped Bugs Bunny?

Come on Bugs: we already know you’re jealous of Roger Rabbit. We know you’ve tried hard to mimic the success he achieved with a single movie and a handful of shorts. We know Michael Jordan and Brendan Fraser didn’t understand what’s being coupled with a cartoon character and make that work, just like Bob Hoskins did.

But this… THIS… This is too low, even for your standards.

Better pray RR2 gets released soon, maybe he can invite you to join the cast ;)

Who Refurbished Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin?

Back in September of this year, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin was closed for a full overhaul. If you’ve seen some pictures took inside this dark, cartoony ride, you surely noticed some paint peel-offs and dust all over the props. In fact the whole thing did look like neglected by maintenance crews, adding more injury to the already tarnished reputation of this ride (mainly constant breakdowns and the weird incident involving a kid falling out of his cart, which ran over him and caused serious injuries that took away his life several years later).

Gladly, the greatest and funniest Toontown attraction was reopened on December 16th, and it looks like new! Dust and paint peels are gone forever, and everything looks so colorful, shiny and awesome! Let’s hope the breakdowns are a thing of the past as well, but even if they remain some people consider them one of Car Toon Spin’s quirks, as they allow the visitors to walk around and take pictures of the props.

Walt Disney’s Looney Arts Club Band

Seems that dutch people are always getting cool Disney stuff. ALWAYS.

In this case we’re talking about one of the neatest parodies of the utterly famous “Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album cover. But instead of The Beatles we have Donald, Goofy, Mickey and Horace Horsecollar. And instead of The Beatles, they’re called “The Duckles”. And still looks trippy, man.

This illustration was drawn in 2009 by comic illustrator Gerben Valkema, for a dutch Disney publication (Disney Comics are still popular in the Netherlands, and they have a huge cult following towards Donald Duck and the whole “Duckverse”). Of course Roger and Jessica Rabbit are featured –in first row!!

James Rolfe from CineMassacre does a great review of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” that has been going all around the tubes, gathering a lot of attention and positive comments.

Yeah, another WFRR review which praises the movie, big deal.

Well, in fact… IT’S ACTUALLY A BIG DEAL.

Maybe the name James Rolfe doesn’t sound familiar to some of you, but maybe his alter-ego will strike a chord in your memories: The Angry Video Game Nerd.

Yes, this is the guy who crucified Roger Rabbit (of course, the almost unplayable game made by LJN for the Nintendo Entertainment System). So we learned he actually has nothing against Roger and the gang, but instead he acknowledges that WFRR still holds up great after all those years, and it’s worth the watch mainly because the nostalgia factor and all those double-entendre jokes aimed to adult audiences.

Check this review: maybe after watching it you’d like to enjoy “Roger Rabbit” again :D

WFRR Movie Mistakes

Nowadays is hard to imagine a time in which Roger Rabbit was even bigger than Mickey Mouse, and merchandise from the movie was literally everywhere on Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Thanks to Flicker user Loren Javier who kindly gave me permission to use his photos, you can now recreate those great times:

As you can see, this window which belongs to the store on Disneyland Hotel shows some of the RR related stuff you could find (and buy) inside. Once into the store, you realize that you’re in fact entering to Roger’s realm:

If you had any doubts of Roger’s fame, just look at this: he even claimed “Mickey’s Corner” as his own!!

T-shirts and sweatshirts, calendars, plush dolls, caps, audiobooks and LP discs, were some of the items and collectibles you could get in this store. Sadly those days are long gone, along with those dolls and merchandise.

If you were fortunate enough to enter to any Disney store back in 1988, we’ll be glad of hearing your own stories!

Each certificate booklet allowed you to get discounts on your meals, free sundaes, and even a little Roger Rabbit plushie with suction cups in the purchase of your VHS copy of the movie. No wonder why those plush buddies became so popular after this promotional campaign! (in fact, I have a couple of them hanging inside my car =3 ).

Watched some Darkwing Duck episodes the other day, and discovered Benny the cab has a brief cameo in one:

Bob Hoskins signs up for Roger Rabbit 2

United Kingdom’s Daily Telegraph revealed us today that Eddie Valiant is back on duty!

I mean, Bob Hoskins finally admitted he signed up for the upcoming sequel of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit" but also has some doubts about the movie being fully animated, as Zemeckis suggested some time ago.

Quoting his own words:

"I don't know how it's going to work out. The format they want to do is the same as we did for (2009 animated movie) "A Christmas Carol." The thing is, it looks like a cartoon, so how do you put a cartoon in the middle of a cartoon? I can't figure out how they are going to do it."

What worries me is when Hoskins says Robert Zemeckis will be animating the whole movie, even when the director revealed some months ago this sequel project will be similar to the original movie, I mean: a mix of animation and live action (although it might be presented in 3D).

At least we know “Roger Rabbit 2” is going ahead, and Bob Hoskins will play some kind of role in that movie (we still don’t know if he’ll reprise Eddie Valiant, but we hope he does it =D ).

They talk about a “newly discovered” screen test made for “Roger Rabbit 2” back in 1998. If you’re familiar with this blog, maybe you’ll remember we reviewed that screen test, SEVERAL MONTHS AGO:

I found that screen test back in May of this year, in Brendan Body’s blog. Someone decided to upload it to YouTube (since it was originally hosted on Vimeo) and then Cartoon Brew picked it up, claiming it was a new discovery. Let’s remember what we’re talking about fellas:

Although we don’t credit Cartoon Brew on that find (instead, we choose to credit Brendan Body since he was the person that found the RR2 test in Eric Guaglione’s website and shared it with everyone), we instead can credit them for bringing more news about that failed project, as some persons that were involved in it posted about their own experiences in the pre-production stages of this ill-fated prequel, and shared some facts about the making of that animated sequence.

I invite you to read about them in /Film or in Cartoon Brew, it’s a really interesting read and absolutely worth your time if you’re a hardcore Roger Rabbit fan like me =3

UPDATE: Eric Goldberg (Animation Director of this project) left his own comments on Cartoon Brew and explains a little about how this test was made and why the prequel project was canceled, besides costs. You gotta read this guy! =D

The owner of YouTube channel TheThiefArchive uploaded recently a video featuring Charles Fleischer (voice of Roger Rabbit, Benny the Cab, Greasy and Psycho Weasels), in which he promotes the video release of Who Framed Roger Rabbit for all video rental stores in United Kingdom. Of course, this was recorded at least 21 years ago so Charles still looks like a youngster.

It’s a very great find indeed, since you can see how Charles tries to sell the movie to video stores in a very funny way, even doing silly voices and faces =D

In the last entry of this blog, my partner Alexander asked about certain Roger Rabbit cameo in an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures… I remembered watching that particular episode several years ago, so I began doing some minor research about it and finally I found that cameo!

You’re about to see a extract from the episode “Buster & Babs Go Hawaiian” (which in fact was the only episode written by fans of the show, and one of the very few fan-generated stories featured in a cartoon series), in which Roger and Jessica are featured. Unfortunately they aren’t playing full cameos: the only thing we can see are Roger’s right hand (wearing a blue glove instead of the well-known yellow one) and Jessica’s legs, but in the other hand Charles Fleischer was called to reprise Roger again:

Joker spoofs Roger?

In addition to being a huge fan of Roger Rabbit I also love the old Batman Animated series. Recently I bought the Gotham Adventures paperback which includes several stories based on the series. Why am I telling you this? Well you see, in the first story there is a page which reminds me a lot of the hidden room scene from the movie. Could be meant as a homage or just a coincidence. Either way, I am posting the page in question. Read the three last panels of the page and decide for yourself.
And if you know about any other references or parodies of Roger Rabbit, then feel free to let us know. I remember him having a cameo of sorts in Tiny Toons once but haven't got a clue which that episode was.

Roger Rabbit 2 – In 3D?

Robert Zemeckis was interviewed while attending the “Cine & Chianti” retrospective in Tuscany (Italy) and he talked again about the upcoming Roger Rabbit sequel. He said that probably Steven Spielberg will join him again for the making of this movie (Spielberg producing, Zemeckis directing), but also kinda revealed that the sequel might be presented in 3D!!

But don’t get alarmed fellas: he talks about the 3D feature that’s the current trend on movie theaters, not the CGI-animated graphics. The animation on the sequel will remain 2D and live action sequences will be filmed, just like in the original movie. Even he explains the differences between the 3D films that are being projected currently (the computer-made ones and true 3D films that require special equipment for its filming, against the 2D movies converted to 3D) and how Roger Rabbit 2 will take advantage of the newest technologies for providing a better experience to the audiences.

When interviewed by Empire Magazine about the upcoming projects coming from the House of Mouse, a.k.a. Disney, producer Don Hahn commented about “The Lion King” getting the 3-D treatment (which is also getting “Beauty and the Beast”) but also spilled some beans about the upcoming Roger Rabbit sequel. In the same criptic way we’re getting used to, Hahn told Empire that…

“Yeah, I couldn’t possibly comment. I deny completely, but yeah… if you’re a fan, pretty soon you’re going to be very, very, very happy.”

With all this rumors and promises from the upcoming movie, I can’t wait to be very, very, very happy! Mr. Hahn, p-p-p-p-p-please help Disney to bring Roger Rabbit back!!

Kathleen Turner might get “drawn this way” again!

According to mexican news agency Notimex, which article (in spanish) was published in a very respected newspaper, Kathleen Turner (who’s turning 56 years old this saturday) is considering to reprise her role as Jessica Rabbit in the upcoming sequel to “Who Roger Rabbit”, which is scheduled to be released in 2012.

Although the article is mainly focused on Turner’s career, it also talks a little about the upcoming movie: Roger and his friends will return with an improved look, but they will remain 2D-animated (so there’s no need to worry about the honey bunny and his sultry wife becoming some sort of weird CGI monsters, huh-huh!).

Roger’s world of rare dolls – Part 1

Around the world, Who Framed Roger Rabbit generated all kinds of merchandising: stickers, clothing, comics and magazines, stationery and party items… And of course: toys and dolls.

Today I’ll gonna show you some cute and interesting toys that were sold in a very distant country, in which Roger Rabbit still lives in Toontown and walks around when he has the chance: Japan.

First of all, there’s this cute wind-up doll and his box (I own this one, by the way):

Then, we have a very peculiar plush doll, that has a battery-operated recorder inside him. That way, he’ll repeat everything you say to him:

And then, there’s another plush doll: this one doesn’t do anything, but at least has some companion =3

Look who’s there! Aren’t they the greatest buddies? They were sold exclusively at Tokyo Disneyland (in case you’re wondering, yes: it’s a single piece):

Who Restored Roger Rabbit?

Some months ago, I grabbed from a flea market a very played with Roger Rabbit doll. He was lacking his trademark bow, his fur and clothing had some rips and tears, and some seams were starting to come out. In other words: the doll was in poor shape, and someone else would had toss him into the garbage bin. But not me! =D

Here’s the poor little guy. Not collectible anymore, huh? Well, I’m here to perform an extreme makeover on this doll! The first thing I did was to get rid of all those loose threads in order to fix his damaged pants and fur. Also I fixed those seams that were giving up because all those years of negligence on him.

Now, it’s time to give his pants a new set of yellow buttons. They were glued over the suspenders, since the fabric of his pants was so damaged it couldn’t hold the seams required to attach the buttons.

In the same fashion, I also glued his bow over the neck. This little fella was starting to look again as Roger Rabbit, but I had to stop this project for a while since I didn’t have the rest of the materials I needed for finishing him.

I forgot about Roger for a couple of months (because I was very busy / lazy to get all the stuff I needed for this project). He started to look a little dusty, so I gave him a well-deserved bubble bath:

He was looking so pristine, that I decided to go ahead with the project and finally got the much-needed whiskers and a cute, little loose tooth for his mouth. Also, I fixed some seams that came out after the bath.

Since I couldn’t find a new set of eyes for him, I printed him a new pair of blue eyes and covered them with plastic adhesive film. Then, I glued them over the damaged eyes, and TADA!!!!

Look at those little blue eyes… They are so cute and lovely!!

And that’s the end of this story. Of course, I need to get some yellow vinyl dots for his tie but I can say this project is finally done!

As you can see, this is not properly a tutorial. My intention was to show you fellas how can you give a second chance to a damaged doll. All you need is a little love and patience (since I didn’t spend more than a couple of bucks for getting all the stuff I needed). After all, Roger deserves it <3

Well… Here’s finally the source of that frame!! This video was found at Brendan Body’s Blog, and it was animated by Eric Guaglione, who worked with Disney by the time the Roger Rabbit sequel was under pre-production:

Found this on my weekend errands; think it’s a little weird but funny:

Kinda strange, huh? In case you are wondering what the heck the t-shirt says, it’s about a veterinarian clinic and dog spa which uses Roger’s name and likeness for promoting their services on my hometown (Guadalajara, México). There’s a close-up of the drawing on the shirt that looks pretty rushed-up, but still interesting:

In some sort of way, he reminds me my own Roger Rabbit, M.D. I brought to life some time ago (the one who’s disguised as Prince Phillip right now):

If you’re an 80’s kid just like me, maybe you remember about blowing your own NES cartdriges for making them work. Well… Nerdist Blog shows that someone took that idea and went beyond with it, creating a NES cartdrige harmonica from a Who Framed Roger Rabbit game:

Surely you’re thinking: how someone could have the guts for turning a collectible WFRR cartdrige (with box and instruction manual included) into an harmonica? Well, don’t worry! The person responsible for this was also selling the ROM board, in case its new owner wants to revert back the cartdrige to its original condition (yes, someone actually bought this!).

At least you can say this particular game will be finally useful for something (if you’ve played it, you know what I mean XD ).

Thanks to TeleRead, I discovered that Gary K. Wolf (creator of Roger Rabbit, Toontown and the whole basis for “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”) is now selling his most famous book, the one that started it all, the big banana: Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, as an e-book through Smashwords.

You can get the book here, among with his first novel Killerbowl. It costs only a couple of bucks!! =D

It worths the read, although be warned: after reading it, you won’t ever see Roger or Jessica in the same way. But what the heck: the book is quite funny and entertaining!

Disney shuts ImageMovers Digital… No RR sequel?

In which seems to be a cost-saving move, The Walt Disney Co. is closing ImageMovers Digital (its own joint venture with director Robert Zemeckis) by January 2011. What’s exactly ImageMovers Digital or IMD? Maybe some movies will refresh your mind: The Polar Express, Beowulf and Disney’s A Christmas Carol. Yup: they did all of them, using Performance Capture, better known as MoCap.

Los Angeles Times goes even deeper in that matter:

What does this means to us Roger Rabbit fans? Well, let’s see… Apparently, the upcoming Robert Zemeckis projects won’t be done through that studio, and even they’re seriously endangered. So maybe we couldn’t get that controversial “Yellow Submarine” remake… Or the much-awaited-yet-so-delayed-and-so-much-promoted Roger Rabbit sequel.

Speculators say that maybe Avatar opened Disney’s execs eyes and realized that Zemeckis’ technology was already outdated (although I personally think they were getting close to it on “A Christmas Carol”), so they decided to discard IMD and focus all their efforts --and money in another Disney ventures (likely Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios). They just needed a good excuse, and James Cameron helped them to get it.

Let’s wait to get some more news. But, again, I feel like being in the same old sinking boat. Won’t somebody think on Roger?

This is a really sweet rendition of my original character, Loretta Rabbit, drawn by Spongefox. Her overall design is a little bit different from mine, but she looks really cute and adorable wearing bows in both ears, and a nice pink jumper with imprinted swirls. And a Toon Kit! Wonder what will do Loretta with it =D

If you ask me, it was about time someone paired both Roger Rabbits: the one from the movie pre-production era, and the Roger we all know and love. It makes me wonder about how the movie would’ve turned if Disney executives used the first incarnation of Roger Rabbit (made in-house) instead of bringing Richard Williams to design him, Jessica, Benny and the gang.

Roger Rabbit back in 1983 –Yes, 1983!!

Yup. They are Eddie Valiant and Roger Rabbit.

As you probably know, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was canned for a while since Disney bought the rights to Gary Wolf’s novel “Who Censored Roger Rabbit?” and the Mouse House’s executives were trying to pull a movie out of that bizarre yet funny novel, until they gave up because they didn’t have the budget for a project like this one.

Well… 2719 Hyperion bring us this pic from the 1983 Disney’s Annual Report, in which a Roger Rabbit movie is mentioned as being near to its theatrical release (little did they know that the movie would be actually premiered in 1988, with a very different look and feel). This photograph shows Mike Gabriel (a Disney animator, storyboard artist and character designer) dressed as Eddie Valiant, along with Roger Rabbit in his first incarnation, mainly inspired in Tex Avery’s cartoons as the design suggests.

Roger Rabbit in Mickey’s 60th. Birthday Special

Yes. I know what are you thinking: he looks cheaply animated.

And you’re right.

This is a excerpt from that Mickey Mouse’s 60th. Anniversary Special that was aired on TV more than 20 years ago. And it gives you an idea of how Roger would look in a regular cartoon show. Try to place this poorly animated sequence in some Bonkers’ episode, and you’ll get the whole picture.

Now I’m thankful we didn’t get a Roger Rabbit SatAM cartoon.

BTW, I’ll give you some kudos if you guess who’s the staff person chatting with Roger… But I’m sure you already know who’s him ;)

Roger AND Rogina Rabbit

Now that’s what I call a very original idea!

A seller at eBay is currently selling this couple of adorable crocheted rabbits: Roger Rabbit himself and a girl rabbit named “Rogina”. What’s interesting about Rogina is her design: she’s mainly a girl version of Roger, wearing some sort of blue necklace, red jumpers and what appear to be white sneakers with blue laces and pink soles.

Wonder if she’s supposed to be Roger’s sister or some distant cousin. She’s really cute <3

Three years living with Roger Rabbit

Yup. I’ve been living three exact years with this little fella (maybe you remember the last year’s entry about my second anniversary with him) and very little has changed since that day.

Or at least, I think so.

Let’s see: Roger gained some much-needed whiskers and his loose tooth, so he isn’t your average Roger Rabbit plush doll anymore. What did I gain? Perhaps several pounds and a lot of knowledge about Roger Rabbit himself, everything related to him and of course the real life outside the rabbit hole.

I’ve had a lot of good stuff and great experiences with Roger. Also some bad stuff came when I couldn’t take control of my emotions, and I hurted him. There are several weird stories too, that are actually funny. But what I really remember with such joy and emotion, was the previous encounter I had with this Roger Rabbit doll before getting him.

At that time, I wasn’t so interested in the rabbit. In fact, knew little about him since the last time I saw him, back in my childhood days. I was collecting another stuff, and my interests were focused to some little spunky, red-haired girl that smells like strawberries. But some day, at the flea market. I spotted him. He was hanging on a grid display, among some other plush dolls and collectibles. Despite my limited knowledge, I recognized him and couldn’t avoid but smile and giggle. He looked really really funny, with his big blue eyes staring at me. A sudden blast of nostalgia caught me, but as soon as it came, it disappeared. I was in fact searching for another doll, so I smiled at Roger for the last time, and said goodbye to him.

Never thought I would bring him to home two weeks later!! (thanks, of course, to the broadcast of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” on Mexican Disney Channel).

Since January 25th. 2007, Roger Rabbit has been part of my life. Today, January 25th, 2010, Roger Rabbit is still part of my life.

And I love him a lot <3

Yes, I know there's that old lady named Anette Edwards, that spent £10,000 or so in cosmetic surgeries just for looking like Jessica Rabbit.

And I know she's also a professional rabbit breeder, that owns the world's biggest living rabbit.

And I know she's around her 60's, and still wanted to look like her favorite character.

What I don't know, is why almost all people at blogs, message boards and even TV shows is making fun of her. She just did what she wanted to do, even when that meant becoming the main focus of some controversy about what can you do at certain ages, and what not. In fact, Anette was so self-confident in herself, that she decided to go ahead to fulfill her dream of becoming Jessica Rabbit by any means necessary. Even if people laugh at her at this moment.

I'm gonna tell you something fellas: I'm almost 30 years old. But anyway, sometimes I take one of my Roger Rabbit plush dolls for strolling around my hometown (mainly around downtown, or going to shopping) and I have a lot of fun doing it. Some people laugh at me histerically, since I'm hugging my bunny doll while walking among them. Some people just smile at me. Usually kids get really excited and cheerful when they spot Roger Rabbit, even if they don't know about him. Even some persons ask me about where I got the rabbit, or if I'm selling him. And I'm enjoying myself all day long.

Because I'm doing something that I love to do, and I'm not hurting anyone while doing it. Could say I know how to deliver some fun to people, hehe!

So, what's the difference between Anette and me? Actually, none. And what's the difference between Anette and the rest of the people? Well, maybe people is afraid of doing what they really want to do (as long as they aren't hurting themselves or other people) and she wasn't.

Now, many years later... one of Doom's many Plan B's is coming into effect. A year ago, I started Toontown Antics. Didn’t have any visitors at the time and the updates were, let’s face it: a little silly and pointless.

Today, Toontown Antics is one of the few well-known blogs fully devoted to Roger Rabbit and his fellow friends, and I have some visitors from United States, Mexico, Argentina, Norway and even Japan!

I can’t thank you enough for all the support, for making this dream come true and for keeping it alive when I was in despair. Thanks to everyone: friends and foes, toons and humans, rabbits and weasels, casual visitors and hardcore fans.

Jeepers!! That’s a HUGE rabbit!

Commissioned a life-sized Roger Rabbit doll several months ago and it’s finally done! Still don’t have it at home (this pictures were sent to me by the person who made the doll) but the rabbit it’s HUGE and it’s totally hand-made. This person also makes Sackboys (from the PS3 hit “Little Big Planet”) and several custom dolls that you can see in her online catalog.

So, do you like him? I can’t wait to bring him at home, he’s so huggable! =3
