More RR Sequel News: There’s a new script!

7028_1

Yes, I know this has been very exhausting for all of us. And I feel like tired while writing this entry, since I don’t really know if this time Zemeckis and his gang are finally getting serious with the much-delayed Roger Rabbit sequel…

But as the owner of Toontown Antics, it’s my duty to keep all of you informed. Hear Robert Zemeckis about this, and get your own conclusions:

"There's a script that's being developed. We've got the original writers that are working on it now — Seaman and Price."

MTV Movie News Exclusive: 'Roger Rabbit' Writers Working On Sequel, Robert Zemeckis Says

This time I’ll keep my comments to myself. Don’t want to get over-excited again, just for watching all my hopes being shattered like the past times.

Every thumbnail is clickable, and will open in a new window:

Again, thanks Alexander for the scans!! =3

Oh, I almost forgot! I re-uploaded all the pages of Roger Rabbit's Toontown issue 3 – Part 1, replacing the rather small scans with better quality pics =D

Hoskins says: “Roger Rabbit drove me mad”

17_08_1006_hoskins

We all Roger Rabbit fans know a little about Bob Hoskins’ hallucinations with cartoons after filming “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. But right now, after 21 years of the movie premiere, he talks openly about them:

“The voice of the rabbit was there just behind the camera all the time, you just had to know where the rabbit would be at all times, and Jessica Rabbit and all these weasels. The trouble was, I had learnt how to hallucinate. If you do that for eight months it becomes hard to get rid of.”

OK! Magazine - Hoskins: "Roger Rabbit drove me mad"

No wonder why he didn’t want to get involved in another cartoon movie after WFRR (although he played Mario in that horrible “Super Mario Bros.” movie, and he’s giving his voice and acting to one of the main characters in “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”).

Maybe that’s the real reason he refused to appear in a possible Roger Rabbit sequel, if it’s ever filmed.

Applause Roger Rabbit Catalog

If you spend a lot of time browsing eBay as me, you can easily find a lot of Roger Rabbit related merchandising, media and some rarities… But this is the first time I see something like this:

Yup: that’s the catalog from Applause (a toy, plush and gift company now owned by Russ Berrie and Company): one of the companies that sold Roger Rabbit licensed items like plushies in all available sizes, mugs, figurines, stationery and keychains, among another items. The front cover features the almost mythical Roger Rabbit life-size plush (very hard to get, even in those days when the movie was premiered), and you can see through its pages some of the most known merchandise about the zany bunny and his film.

Oh, I forgot: if you want to bid in that catalog, then click on the following link:

1988 DISNEY'S ROGER RABBIT MERCHANDISE CATALOG APPLAUSE
(This link may not be working after October 2009)

Since this catalog was only given to retailers, you can imagine how hard must be to get one of those! As for me, I own several Applause Roger Rabbit plushies (some small, one mid-sized, another one a little bigger, and one with suction cups) and figurines =3

Roger Rabbit's Toontown issue 3 - Part 1

Third time's a charm dont'cha think?
Bunnyfriend has informed me he is running low on material for the blog so I step in once again to provide the blog's visitors (the two of you or so) with some stuff about my favourite wabbit.

So we're starting with RRTT #3 and if you are good little kids I will put up more.

Welcome back, Toontown Tattler!

postcard5

After a long abscense, Sketch returned to The Toontown Tattler!! That makes us happy, since as you might now, there aren’t a lot of Roger Rabbit related sites out there. He seems very commited to do things right this time (although I personally think he was doing great), and because that he will start from scratch since the next week.

I wish him the best luck, and I hope we could work in a future project soon. Roger Rabbit deserves it =3

The Totally unOfficial Toonography of Jessica P5

In the fifth delivery of the Toonography, Jessica Rabbit is established as one of the most influential female characters of the 80’s. She defined a whole generation (among some well-known characters like She-Ra and Jem) and even left a legacy that was soon followed by female cartoons like Holli Would (from Cool World), Angel (from the short-lived “Fish Police” cartoon) and Hello Nurse (from the Animaniacs).

Thanks again to ImNotBadTV for sharing this valuable info with all Jessica’s fans =3

Roger’s “carrot bag” and other ammenities

James E. Daniels, from the J.E. Daniels’ Animated Topics and Headlines blog, uploaded some interesting screencaps from the “Trail Mix-Up” short that show many of the gags and inside jokes animators left on there… But one of the screencaps hitted me like a ton of bricks, since it reveals that Jessica loves her zany husband not only because he makes her laugh:

Yup: Roger is wearing a thong.
And yup: that’s quite a “carrot bag”!!

What’s funny about this particular screencap, is that later at this animated short, Roger is wearing boxers (just near the end of the feature). Well… I must admit I feel a little disturbed about Roger’s “power package”, but hey! Those kind of gags were meant to be hidden, so it’s not surprise we could find more of them if we look close enough ;)

Thanks to J.E. Daniels for sharing this info with everyone!! =3

Roger Rabbit Sticker Sheets

In my weekly errands on flea markets and thrift stores, usually I find rather interesting stuff for my Roger Rabbit toy and plush collection… But I never thought I would find this:

Those are a couple of vintage Roger Rabbit sticker sheets made by the mexican company Granmark 22 years ago (since the copyright notice features the year 1987). Sadly the sheets are incomplete, but we still have Roger Rabbit, Jessica, Eddie Valiant, Baby Herman, Judge Doom, Bongo the Gorilla, some weasels, a couple of penguins from the “Ink and Paint Club”, and even the mail pelican with his untrusty bicycle!

What makes me really happy about those is that they’re just like the RR sticker sheets I used to have when I was a child and the movie was still in theaters. My school notebooks were decorated with those Roger Rabbit stickers, since I really liked him and his movie =3

Roger Rabbit 2 script on Ebay

Someone has put the script for the sequel that never got made up for sale. For those of you who didn't knew about this movie. Well, after the success of WFRR the filmmakers starting playing around with the idea for another film about Roger Rabbit. Eventually they came up with the idea for a prequel featuring Roger's adventures as a soldier during WW2 and how he first met Jessica. It was sadly scrapped due to budget problems and the fact that after Schindler's list Speilberg never wanted to have anything to do with movies that featured nazis. (Which if I remember correctly was also one of the reasons why Indy 4 was so delayed)

If you are interested in finding out more about this I suggest you head over to Filmbuff Online which has a informative article about the subject.

Roger Rabbit Conceptual Poster 2

Remember the prototype poster I’ve featured in one of our past entries? In that one, I mentioned another variation of that poster, and even made my guesses about it posting another conceptual design…

Well, I was wrong. This one is the real variation of that poster:

As the last time, the auction can be found at eBay:

eBay - ORIGINAL Disney Painting Roger Rabbit STEVEN CHORNEY
(the link may not work if you’re reading this after October 2009)

Although this one is just the painting without any logos or lettering, it's still an awesome illustration. Anyway, it wasn't used for the final version of the theatrical poster (which as we already know, features a Roger Rabbit silhouette made with 35mm. film, that has embedded some promotional stills from the movie) maybe because it looked too "childish".

P.S. The other painting is already sold, so I guess this one won't last for long =3

Roger Rabbit’s Toontown issue 2 – Part 2

Finally, Benny the Cab is getting his own story! Which involves some competition from another mean cab, who kidnaps Roger Rabbit and tries to get even more than a well-paid fare from him…

As always, thanks to Alexander for those scans! =3
