Rest in peace Eddie Valiant

Got some truly depressing news today. The great Bob Hoskins has passed away.
Cause of death seems to be pneumonia. He was 71 years old.
Pretty tough for me to deal with this. As you probably know, this is a movie I hold very dear and it feels like I just lost an old friend.

So long Bob, thanks for all the wonderful memories.  No one has been able to make interaction with non-existing characters as believable as you did. You were truly one of a kind.

Bob Hoskins says goodbye to acting – Farewell, Eddie Valiant

Well, I…

I didn’t see this coming.

Bob Hoskins, our Eddie Valiant in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” is retiring from acting duties. Sadly he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease last autumn, and as time passes and his disease keeps developing, he won’t be able to deliver any more of his quality performances on movies, TV or theater.

Parkinson’s Disease has also gotten other well-known celebrities like Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali. Hoskins will spend more time with his family, out of the spotlights, in a more private and less-demanding lifestyle.

Frankly I don’t have enough words to tell you how devastated I feel for these news. We were expecting him to reprise his role in the in-works sequel of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, but sadly this won’t be happening. But I fully understand why he took this painful decision, and I really wish him the best. In fact, I’m very thankful for all the great moments I’ve had with every one of his roles on movies (as Smee in “Hook”, the villainous Bart in “Unleashed”, Mr. Fezziwig in “A Christmas’ Carol” and even as Mario in the infamous “Super Mario Bros.”,  among others).

Farewell Eddie Valiant, our grumpy old friend. Toontown will never be the same without you. You’ll live forever in our hearts.

Bob Hoskins signs up for Roger Rabbit 2

Eddie Roger

United Kingdom’s Daily Telegraph revealed us today that Eddie Valiant is back on duty!

I mean, Bob Hoskins finally admitted he signed up for the upcoming sequel of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit" but also has some doubts about the movie being fully animated, as Zemeckis suggested some time ago.

Quoting his own words:

"I don't know how it's going to work out. The format they want to do is the same as we did for (2009 animated movie) "A Christmas Carol." The thing is, it looks like a cartoon, so how do you put a cartoon in the middle of a cartoon? I can't figure out how they are going to do it."

What worries me is when Hoskins says Robert Zemeckis will be animating the whole movie, even when the director revealed some months ago this sequel project will be similar to the original movie, I mean: a mix of animation and live action (although it might be presented in 3D).

At least we know “Roger Rabbit 2” is going ahead, and Bob Hoskins will play some kind of role in that movie (we still don’t know if he’ll reprise Eddie Valiant, but we hope he does it =D ).

Hoskins says: “Roger Rabbit drove me mad”

17_08_1006_hoskins

We all Roger Rabbit fans know a little about Bob Hoskins’ hallucinations with cartoons after filming “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. But right now, after 21 years of the movie premiere, he talks openly about them:

“The voice of the rabbit was there just behind the camera all the time, you just had to know where the rabbit would be at all times, and Jessica Rabbit and all these weasels. The trouble was, I had learnt how to hallucinate. If you do that for eight months it becomes hard to get rid of.”

OK! Magazine - Hoskins: "Roger Rabbit drove me mad"

No wonder why he didn’t want to get involved in another cartoon movie after WFRR (although he played Mario in that horrible “Super Mario Bros.” movie, and he’s giving his voice and acting to one of the main characters in “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”).

Maybe that’s the real reason he refused to appear in a possible Roger Rabbit sequel, if it’s ever filmed.

RR Sequel sad news: Eddie Valiant is a goner

I’ve learned today thanks to MTV Movies Blog that Eddie Valiant probably won’t appear in the planned Roger Rabbit sequel, as Bob Hoskins feels he’s very old to reprise his role as the hard-boiled, but lovable detective:

The thing is, you act with cartoons, you got to be able to bounce off the walls like a cartoon. So I’m too old. I’m too old now.

I think he could do a sequel. He wouldn’t be able to do it with me. I’m too old!

EXCLUSIVE: Bob Hoskins Says He Won't Play Eddie Valiant In Another 'Roger Rabbit'

I wonder how will work that sequel without one of the main characters, the one that should get most of the credit for making the movie plot work and flow like water. Bob Hoskins surely will get a role in the upcoming movie (if it’s ever filmed), but which kind of role will he play?

Stay tooned for more news about this upcoming feature!!
