RR Sequel sad news: Eddie Valiant is a goner

I’ve learned today thanks to MTV Movies Blog that Eddie Valiant probably won’t appear in the planned Roger Rabbit sequel, as Bob Hoskins feels he’s very old to reprise his role as the hard-boiled, but lovable detective:

The thing is, you act with cartoons, you got to be able to bounce off the walls like a cartoon. So I’m too old. I’m too old now.

I think he could do a sequel. He wouldn’t be able to do it with me. I’m too old!

EXCLUSIVE: Bob Hoskins Says He Won't Play Eddie Valiant In Another 'Roger Rabbit'

I wonder how will work that sequel without one of the main characters, the one that should get most of the credit for making the movie plot work and flow like water. Bob Hoskins surely will get a role in the upcoming movie (if it’s ever filmed), but which kind of role will he play?

Stay tooned for more news about this upcoming feature!!

I was actually kind of seing this coming. After all, the original Toon Platoon sequel/prequel plans didn't involve Eddie either.
But as long as Roger and Jessica will be in it I will still be happy. It would be nice if Roger mentions his adventure with Eddie at some point in the sequel though.

What makes me wonder is which kind of character will play Bob Hoskins in the sequel. Maybe he would play an older version of Eddie Valiant, somewhat like an old fart. Maybe he had a kid with Dolores (which could be still alive or not) and that kid grew up and became Eddie Valiant Jr., following his father´s steps.

Or maybe Bob Hoskins is just teasing us fans, as well as Robert Zemeckis and Charles Fleischer did.

Sad news, but when I think about him, acting like toons is too hard for him. So I don't blame him. I'm just hoping he'll appear on the sequel...If it is ever filmed....

I hope someday we can get that sequel, dear Ayaka-imouto-chan. Hoskins is indeed a little too old for playing Eddie Valiant in the same way he did in the original film, but sure he can still be there as an old, retired Eddie Valiant.

Let's see what happens in the next months, or even in a couple of years.
